Ernest Kumi’s Arrest Attempt Was Lawful – Aimed at Enforcing High Court Warrant – Muntaka
Interior Minister explains the attempted arrest of Akwatia MP was to enforce a High Court bench warrant for contempt.

Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has clarified that the attempted arrest of Ernest Kumi, the Member of Parliament for Akwatia, on March 7, 2025, was to enforce a bench warrant issued by the Koforidua High Court for contempt.
The National Investigations Bureau (NIB) faced resistance from supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Akwatia during the arrest attempt. Responding to a query from Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Muntaka explained that the High Court issued the bench warrant on February 19, 2025, and the NIB acted based on directives from the National Security Coordinator.
According to Muntaka, the attempted arrest was a lawful effort to comply with the court’s order.
