Kenyan President William Ruto was struck by a flying shoe while addressing a public rally in Migori County on Sunday, May 4.
A video circulating on social media and obtained by Lawson Multimedia Online shows the shoe soaring through the air and hitting President Ruto while he was mid-speech.
Despite the surprising interruption, the president remained composed and continued delivering his address shortly after.
Ruto was in Migori as part of a developmental tour and had earlier attended an interdenominational prayer service at Kadika Primary School in Suna East. After the service, he proceeded to Piny Oyie to engage with the local community.
This dramatic incident comes just days after the shocking assassination of Kasipul Member of Parliament, Charles Were, in Nairobi.
According to investigators, MP Were was fatally shot by unknown assailants on a motorcycle on Wednesday evening, April 30, while traveling along Ngong Road.
CCTV footage revealed that the MP had left Parliament around 7 PM, accompanied by his driver and bodyguard. His vehicle, a Toyota Crown, was tracked by a hooded suspect seen monitoring its movements.
After a brief stop at an M-Pesa shop on Wabera Street—where the bodyguard alighted to deposit Ksh20,000—the MP’s vehicle resumed its journey. Attempting to avoid traffic, the driver rerouted through Ralph Bunche Road and onto Argwings Kodhek Road.
While stuck in traffic on Valley Road, the trailing motorbike rider approached the vehicle, fired four shots through the passenger window at close range, and fled the scene.
The brazen attack has intensified security concerns across the country, especially amid rising political tensions.
