“As president of the republic, I join the people of Ghana in celebrating the invaluable contributions of the Ghanaian media to our democracy,” Mahama wrote. “Your work, from holding leadership to account to representing the voices of the people, is essential.”

He commended journalists for their unwavering commitment and resilience, encouraging them to continue upholding high standards of journalistic ethics and integrity.

“Keep upholding the highest standards of journalism, fostering informed public discourse, and contributing to a stronger, more dynamic Ghana,” he added.

Reaffirming his support for media freedom, President Mahama referenced recent comments made by Ghana’s Minister for Government Communications at the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Honours Night.

He assured that, should he return to power, his government would continue to promote and protect an independent media landscape.

“Together, let’s enhance our democracy through truth, accuracy, and ethical reporting, ensuring a free and responsible press that empowers citizens and strengthens our nation,” Mahama concluded.
