In a bold step towards digital transformation, the Ghanaian government has launched the One Million Coders Programme—a visionary initiative set to train one million citizens in coding and digital skills.
The goal: drive innovation, fuel job creation, and reshape the nation’s economic landscape.
The official launch took place on April 16, 2025, with a central event in Accra and simultaneous activities at satellite locations. The event brought together tech industry leaders, government representatives, and development partners, signaling strong multi-sectoral support for what many see as a game-changing initiative for Ghana’s digital future.
Minister for Communications, Digital Innovation and Technologies, Sam Nartey George, emphasized the urgency and significance of the program, calling it a pivotal moment in Ghana’s digital evolution.
“We’re standing at a crucial crossroad,” the Minister said. “This isn’t just about learning to code—it’s about transforming our economy, building resilient careers, and boldly investing in the potential of our people. Science, technology, and innovation must become the driving forces behind inclusive growth.”
The programme reflects the government’s commitment to harnessing the power of technology for inclusive development and future-ready jobs.
