In a bold move to address the concerns of the education sector, President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to immediately promote all eligible deputy directors of education, regardless of office space availability.
This directive comes in the wake of a looming strike threat from the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), which has voiced its frustration over delayed promotions for junior teachers.
Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, made this announcement at the launch of a sanitary pad distribution program for schoolgirls on Thursday, April 24.
He assured that the promotions would proceed without delay, noting that even if office spaces were unavailable, the deputy directors would still serve in their new roles as directors within the GES.
The initiative is part of President Mahama’s broader commitment to gender equality and education reform.
By addressing menstrual health needs through the Free Pad program, the President aims to ease the financial burden on families, improve school attendance for girls, and promote overall health and well-being, ensuring an inclusive educational environment for all.
