A devastating plane crash in South Sudan has claimed the lives of 20 out of 21 people on board, according to a report by UN-backed Radio Miraya.

The aircraft, which departed from Unity Oil Field in Unity State, crashed shortly after takeoff on Wednesday.

Among the deceased were the pilot and co-pilot. Three survivors are reported to be in critical condition, as per updated information from Gatwech Bipal, Unity State’s minister for information and communication.

The ill-fated plane was en route to Juba, the capital of South Sudan, when the tragedy struck.
