- Bawumia urges unity
Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has strongly criticized the politicization of the ongoing crisis in Bawku, located in the Upper East Region.
Speaking at the NPP’s national Thank You Tour on Tuesday in the Western North Region, Dr. Bawumia called out politicians who are using the escalating conflict for personal gain, labeling the situation as “unfortunate.”
He emphasized that certain individuals have manipulated the crisis for narrow political objectives, undermining the peace and stability of the region.
“The politicization of the Bawku conflict is regrettable,” Dr. Bawumia remarked, noting that some had spread false claims that he was behind the violence, including accusations of supplying arms to one side. “They played politics with the situation, spreading lies about me. It was heartbreaking to hear such fabrications,” he added.
Dr. Bawumia also expressed disappointment that even within the NPP, some had believed and propagated these misleading narratives. However, he noted that time had exposed the truth, revealing that the NDC had been the source of these falsehoods for political leverage.
“The lies of the NDC have been exposed, and the truth is clear for all to see. This should serve as a warning: no one should politicize the Bawku issue,” he declared.
In closing, Dr. Bawumia called for unity and urged politicians to focus on achieving lasting peace in Bawku rather than exploiting chieftaincy issues for political advantage.
“I want peace in Bawku more than anyone else, and I hope the mediation led by Otumfuo will bring the much-needed peace to the region,” he said.
