According to multiple reports, Israeli political and military leaders have approved plans to significantly expand their offensive in the Gaza Strip. These plans reportedly include the potential occupation of the entire enclave, direct Israeli control over the delivery of humanitarian aid, and the possible expulsion of Palestinian residents.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Security Cabinet reportedly gave unanimous approval to measures that would call up reservist soldiers and place the Israeli military in charge of the distribution of food and other essential supplies to the 2.3 million people currently suffering under Israel’s ongoing blockade of the Palestinian territory.
International news agencies, citing unnamed Israeli officials, have suggested that these approved plans entail the “conquest” and subsequent occupation of the entire Gaza Strip.
Reuters news agency reported that the expanded offensive “could go as far as seizing the entire enclave.”
A source speaking to AFP news agency stated that “The plan will include, among other things, the conquest of the Gaza Strip and the holding of the territories, moving the Gaza population south for their protection.” The same source also indicated that Netanyahu “continues to promote” former United States President Donald Trump’s previously proposed plan for the “voluntary departure” of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
Furthermore, the approved plans reportedly include the possibility of Israel directly managing the provision of all humanitarian aid within Gaza.
