WASSCE 2024: Core Mathematics Records Best Pass Rate in Four Years
WAEC reports record-breaking results as 305,132 students excel in Core Mathematics
- 66.86% of candidates scored A1-C6, the highest since 2021
- Results improved by 4.63% from 2023, continuing a positive trend
- English, Science, and Social Studies saw declines in pass rates
The 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has achieved its highest Core Mathematics pass rate since 2021, with 66.86% of candidates scoring grades A1 to C6.
According to a December 30, 2024, statement from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), this marks a significant improvement from 54.11% in 2021 and a 4.63% rise from last year’s 62.23%.
Out of 460,611 candidates who sat for the exams—a 2.66% increase from 2023—305,132 excelled in Core Mathematics.
However, performance in other core subjects showed mixed results. English Language saw a slight dip to 69.52% from 73.11% in 2023, Integrated Science dropped sharply to 58.77% from 66.82%, and Social Studies declined to 71.53% from 76.76% last year.
