Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has officially signed a new two-year contract, extending his stay at Anfield until the summer of 2027.
The 33-year-old Dutch centre-back, whose current deal was due to expire at the end of the season, joins fellow Reds star Mohamed Salah in committing his future to the club under new manager Arne Slot.
“It’s a proud and joyful moment,” Van Dijk said after the announcement. “To continue this journey with Liverpool for another two years is something I’m incredibly grateful for.”
Van Dijk had been linked with a move to French giants Paris Saint-Germain, but he quickly dismissed any doubt about his intentions.
“It was always Liverpool. That was the plan. There was no hesitation. This club is home to me and my family,” he said. “Someone called me an adopted Scouser recently—and I couldn’t be prouder.”
Legacy at Anfield
Van Dijk joined Liverpool in January 2018 from Southampton in a then-record £75 million deal for a defender. Since then, he has helped transform the club’s defense and has been a cornerstone of their success over the past seven years.
During his time at Anfield, Van Dijk has helped Liverpool lift:
-
The Premier League
-
The Champions League
-
The FA Cup
-
The FIFA Club World Cup
-
And two EFL Cups
Now under the guidance of Arne Slot, in his debut season as Liverpool manager, Van Dijk continues to play a vital role as the team chases a potential 20th league title, which would equal Manchester United’s all-time record.
With Van Dijk and Salah both secured, Liverpool appears poised for a new era—rooted in experience, leadership, and ambition.
