A woman was killed early Saturday morning when a bomb she was carrying detonated before she could place it near a bank, according to Greek police.

The explosion occurred around 5 a.m. in the northern Greek city, damaging nearby storefronts and vehicles. Authorities said the 38-year-old woman was believed to be en route to plant the explosive outside the bank when it went off prematurely.

Police identified the woman as someone already known to law enforcement for her involvement in multiple robberies. Investigators are now probing possible links to far-left extremist groups.

Forensic teams and bomb squad experts continued searching the area for evidence later in the day.
