Rigging an Election in Ghana Is Impossible – Electoral Commission

EC Refutes Allegations of Collusion, Assures of Transparent Electoral Processes

Story Highlights
  • EC described claims of election manipulation as baseless and unfounded
  • Ghana’s electoral system is designed to ensure transparency and prevent rigging
  • Irregularities may occur, but systemic election rigging is deemed impossible

The Electoral Commission (EC) has strongly denied allegations of colluding with any political party to manipulate the December 7 general elections.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) recently accused the EC of working with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to sway election results in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking at a security symposium at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Dr. Serebuor Quaicoe, Head of Training at the EC, described the claims as baseless.

He highlighted the robustness of Ghana’s electoral system, which ensures transparency and integrity, making election rigging impossible.

“There is no way an election in Ghana can be rigged. It would require the complicity of all stakeholders, including the Electoral Commission and party agents. Such unanimity in fraudulent acts is highly improbable,” Dr. Quaicoe asserted.

He acknowledged the potential for irregularities or fraudulent activities but stressed that systemic rigging is not feasible under Ghana’s electoral framework.
