President John Dramani Mahama has returned to Ghana following a successful two-nation working visit to Germany and Ethiopia.

His first stop was Munich, Germany, where he attended the opening session of the Munich Security Conference on Thursday, February 13.

As Chairman of the Tana Forum, Mahama also participated in a side event hosted by the forum, where he shared his vision on the emerging security challenges facing Africa and the world. The Tana Forum is a platform dedicated to fostering African-led solutions to security issues.

During his address at the conference, Mahama called for urgent reforms to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), deeming it outdated and disconnected from the realities of modern global dynamics.

He emphasized the need for the expansion of permanent membership to enhance inclusivity and global representation.

“The UN has made strides in improving efficiency, but the Security Council remains stagnant, archaic, and ineffective,” Mahama remarked.

The former president then traveled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he delivered a powerful address at the 38th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly.

He urged African leaders to unite in advocating for reparatory justice for Africans and people of African descent, emphasizing the importance of legal and institutional reforms to address the historical trauma caused by the transatlantic slave trade.

Mahama referred to the slave trade as one of history’s gravest crimes against humanity, which resulted in the forced displacement of millions of Africans.

President Mahama was warmly received at the Kotoka International Airport upon his return, where he was met by Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff.

Also present were Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang and Abraham Amaliba, Acting Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority.
