In his inaugural mass at the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV passionately called on the Catholic Church to urgently combat the growing lack of faith in today’s world.

Reflecting on the challenges facing modern society, the newly elected Pope, who is the first U.S. leader of the Church, emphasized the importance of returning to spiritual values rather than relying on technology, money, power, or pleasure.

Leo, the 267th Pope and 69 years old, stated that his mission was to serve as a “faithful administrator” of a Church that must stand as a “beacon” in the world’s dark times.

He outlined the spiritual and social crises facing many, including the loss of purpose, human dignity violations, and the weakening of the family, all exacerbated by the lack of faith.

The ascension of Robert Francis Prevost, a former Bishop in Peru and now Pope Leo XIV, has been met with widespread celebration from Catholics worldwide.

His first sermon, broadcast live from the Sistine Chapel, resonated with his call for unity and outreach in a world dominated by wealth and technology.

Having grown up in the U.S. and spent decades working with the marginalized in Peru, Pope Leo XIV is seen as a continuation of his predecessor, Pope Francis’ progressive and humanitarian approach.

The new Pope’s message for peace and bridge-building has garnered support from leaders around the globe, all while he faces the immense responsibility of leading the Church during turbulent global times.
