Thirty African Heads of State, including Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama, have pledged to expand access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity in their nations.
The commitment was made at the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit in Tanzania, an initiative aiming to connect 300 million Africans to electricity within six years.
Hosted by Tanzania in partnership with the African Union (AU), the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), and the World Bank Group, the summit highlighted collective strategies to address Africa’s energy deficit.
President Mahama, addressing Ghana’s energy challenges, emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to stabilize power supply. Upon his return, Acting Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu reaffirmed Ghana’s dedication to resolving energy issues, citing the summit’s goal of extending electricity to underserved areas across Africa.
At the summit, Mahama shared Ghana’s experiences, advising fellow leaders on strategies to overcome electricity shortages while avoiding past pitfalls. The leaders’ united front underscores Africa’s determination to bridge the energy gap and drive economic growth through sustainable power solutions.
