Ghanaian rapper King Paluta has formally petitioned the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) board, seeking an explanation for the exclusion of his song “Makoma” from nomination in several categories.
In a letter dated March 18th, Paluta’s team stated that “Makoma” was submitted for consideration in four categories: Most Popular Song, Record of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year. However, the song received no nominations in the announced list.
Paluta asserts that “Makoma” met all ethical and moral requirements of the TGMA and believes it deserved recognition. The letter emphasizes the song’s popularity and impact among music lovers.
“We humbly write to your honorable board to demand some explanations in connection with the snub of ‘MAKOMA’ by King PALUTA, a song we duly submitted for consideration which we believe remains Ghana’s most popular song released the year under review, generating the most excitement amongst music lovers till date,” the letter stated.
Paluta’s management expressed confidence in the TGMA board’s competence but requested a “convincing reason” for the decision. They also indicated a willingness to engage with the board for potential reconsideration of “Makoma” in the submitted categories.
