The funeral for legendary Ghanaian musician and Osibisa co-founder, Teddy Osei, will be held on Saturday, April 5th in Kumasi.
Osei will lie in state at his family home in Chirapatre at 8:00 AM, followed by a burial mass at St. Peter’s Basilica, Roman Hill, Kumasi at 9:00 AM.
Interment will take place at the Chirapatre Royal Cemetery.
A thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday, April 6th at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Chirapatre, followed by final funeral rites at the family home from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
Osei, who passed away at the age of 88 on January 14, 2025, was a pioneering saxophonist and a key figure in the formation of the influential Afro-rock band Osibisa in 1969.
Born in Kumasi, Osei’s musical journey began in his childhood.
He formed “The Comets” after college and later moved to London, where he established Osibisa, achieving international acclaim throughout the 1970s.
