Kenyan Police Uncover Two Bodies in Suspected Cult Church, Rescue 57

Discovery in Migori County raises concerns over possible cult activity, echoing previous tragic events in Kenya

  • 57 people rescued, appearing weak and frail
  • Incident recalls the 2023 Shakahola forest cult tragedy

Kenyan police have uncovered two bodies and rescued 57 people from a church in Migori County, western Kenya, as reported by an internal police document.

The discovery harks back to a devastating starvation cult incident from two years ago. One body, that of a man dressed in white robes, was found in the prayer room of the St. Joseph Missions of Africa Church on Monday.

The 57 rescued individuals appeared frail and weak, and were promptly taken to a nearby hospital.

However, despite their condition, they reportedly resisted medical help, instead choosing to sing religious hymns. A police spokesperson has yet to comment on the ongoing situation.

This discovery draws parallels with the 2023 revelation of over 400 bodies in the Shakahola forest, where victims of the Good News International Church cult, led by Paul Mackenzie, were believed to have starved themselves following orders to reach salvation.

Mackenzie faces charges of murder and terrorism-related offenses, although he denies the accusations, and legal proceedings are still underway.
