The Ghana Police Service has vowed to take decisive action against anyone who incites violence before, during, or after the December elections.

The police believe that holding offenders accountable will serve as a deterrent to those considering destabilizing actions.

In a meeting with the Civic Forum Initiative at the Police Headquarters in Accra on November 19, Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akufo-Dampare stressed a zero-tolerance policy toward violence.

He assured the public that the police will strictly enforce the law to maintain peace throughout the electoral period.

“You can be assured that we will engage where necessary, deescalate when we can, but be ruthless in enforcing the law when required, all within the framework of the rule of law. We will not hesitate to take strong action,” he stated.

Dr. Dampare urged Ghanaians to support the police in their efforts to maintain peace and security. “We hope the campaigning period will remain peaceful, and our focus is now on ensuring a smooth election day and the aftermath,” he added.
