EC to Rerun Dome Kwabenya Polls at Key Polling Centre
EC to Rerun Polls at Abokobi Women's Centre Amid Dome Kwabenya Election Dispute
- The Electoral Commission (EC) has mandated a rerun at Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2 in Dome Kwabenya
- Disputes over collated results and allegations of irregularities marred the initial declaration
- This rerun could determine the fate of a traditionally NPP stronghold
The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced a rerun of elections in the Dome Kwabenya constituency, specifically at the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2.
This rerun is slated to occur before the inauguration on January 7, 2025.
The decision stems from unresolved discrepancies in results after collating data from 367 polling stations. This sparked a heated dispute, with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Elikplim Akurugu, being declared the winner.
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Mike Oquaye Jnr., raised concerns over irregularities, citing their absence during the collation of results from most polling stations.
Meanwhile, the NDC insists only three stations remained uncollated, disputing the NPP’s claims.
Amid the chaos and allegations of tampered pink sheets, the EC has called for a rerun to address the contentious results from one polling station. A specific date for the rerun is yet to be confirmed.
This highly contested election could shift dynamics in a constituency traditionally seen as an NPP stronghold.
