Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Ghana’s Minister for Education, has been honored as the 2024 Minister of the Year by the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) in a special ceremony held in Accra.
This recognition highlights his exceptional leadership, vision, and innovations that have transformed Ghana’s education sector into a model for the rest of Africa.
The prestigious accolade comes as a testament to Dr. Adutwum’s relentless dedication to improving educational standards, promoting access, and spearheading STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) initiatives.
His contributions have not only shaped the nation’s educational landscape but have inspired both students and educators alike to embrace a future centered on knowledge and creativity.
A plaque and a citation were presented to Dr. Adutwum, praising his unwavering commitment to the youth of Ghana and his collaborative approach with student leaders and educational stakeholders.
The citation reads, “Your visionary initiatives and unrelenting commitment have redefined the education landscape in Ghana…your passion for STEM has propelled ground-breaking achievements.”
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Adutwum thanked NUGS for the honor and reiterated that the education policies introduced are designed to equip students with the skills needed to compete globally. He also urged Ghanaians to support the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections to continue the transformative work being done.
Other notable awards included a Lifetime Achievement Award for Mr. Robin Todd, Executive Director of Transforming Teaching, Education, and Learning (T-TEL), and Dr. Eric Nkansah, Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES). Additionally, 254 students received the NUGS Stipend Scholarship, which was established to support brilliant but financially disadvantaged students.
This award reflects the strides Ghana is making in the education sector, setting the stage for a brighter future for its students and the nation.
