The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged the public to dismiss claims made by Kumasi-based media figure Oheneba Nana Asiedu regarding separate voting days for presidential candidates in the upcoming general elections.

Asiedu was arrested by the Ghana Police Service on November 23, 2024, for allegedly disseminating false information.

Following his invitation for questioning by the Ashanti Regional Police Command, he was accused of inciting confusion by suggesting voters should cast their ballots on different days.

The police described his comments as “false and potentially disruptive to public order,” leading to his arrest.

After being released on bail, Asiedu’s statements quickly spread across social media platforms.

In a statement on November 24, the EC clarified, “We urge the public to ignore these misleading assertions.” The Commission confirmed that the general elections will take place on December 7, 2024, with voting hours set from 7 AM to 5 PM.

The EC encourages all eligible voters to participate in the elections and to do so in a calm and organized manner.
