Debate Showdown: Mahama Can’t Escape Bawumia – NPP Communicator

Tensions escalate as the NPP insists on a face-off before the elections

Story Highlights
  • NPP communicator Bright Acheampong asserts that John Mahama cannot avoid a debate with Dr. Bawumia
  • Mahama recently posed five questions to Bawumia, who responded with fifty
  • The NPP is committed to a vigorous campaign, with Bawumia treating the race as if he were in opposition

Bright Acheampong, a member of the National Communication Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has firmly stated that no matter what John Mahama does, he will have to face Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in a debate.

Despite multiple requests from Bawumia for a debate focused on the economy ahead of the upcoming December elections, Mahama has repeatedly declined, claiming he knows his standing.

Recently, Mahama challenged Bawumia with five economic questions, to which Bawumia replied with a request for a direct debate, presenting Mahama with 50 questions instead. In response, Mahama dismissed Bawumia’s questions as irrelevant, insisting that the elections are centered around the economy, not on Bawumia’s “useless” inquiries.

Appearing on the ‘Ghana Se Sen’ Morning Show with Kwame Tanko, Mr Acheampong remarked on the escalating tensions between the two candidates, noting that Mahama’s provocative responses indicate he is feeling the pressure.

He urged for constructive criticism instead of personal attacks, highlighting that both candidates have held significant offices, Mahama as former president and Bawumia as current vice president.

“Let’s engage in constructive criticism. Mahama has been president before, and Bawumia is Vice President. Whatever Mahama does, he will debate Bawumia,” he said.

Mr. Acheampong assured that the NPP is taking the 2024 elections seriously, with Bawumia campaigning vigorously as if he were in opposition, leaving no stone unturned in their efforts.
