‘I Have Not Changed My Position’ – Sam George Stands Firm on Anti-LGBTQI Bill
MP Reaffirms Commitment to Criminalizing LGBTQI Practices in Ghana.

- Resubmitted Private Member’s Bill
- Awaits invitation from Parliamentary Committee
- Maintains unwavering opposition to LGBTQI rights
Samuel Nartey George, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, has made it clear that his position on the Anti-LGBTQI Bill remains steadfast.
In a recent interview, George reiterated his commitment to the bill, which aims to criminalize LGBTQI activities in Ghana.
“I have not changed my position on the anti-LGBTQI Bill. I have laid the Private Member’s Bill before Parliament,” George emphasized, describing LGBTQI practices as an “abomination” that should not be accepted in Ghana.
George, a vocal supporter of the bill, stated that he has resubmitted the legislation and is waiting for an invitation from the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee to move it forward. The bill, which has sparked debates nationwide, is seen by supporters as a reflection of Ghana’s cultural and religious values, though critics argue it infringes upon basic human rights.
Former President John Dramani Mahama recently suggested that the bill might gain more legitimacy and support if introduced as a government-sponsored initiative. He further highlighted that promoting family values through education could be a better approach to preserving Ghana’s moral standards.
