The High Court has thrown out election petitions filed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) aimed at challenging the outcomes of the 2024 parliamentary elections in Ahafo Ano North, Ahafo Ano South West, and Obuasi East.

The NDC had argued that its candidates were the legitimate winners in those constituencies and accused the Electoral Commission of wrongly declaring the seats in favor of New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidates.

Represented by lawyer Evans Amankwah, along with regional party executives and the affected candidates, the NDC sought to have the court overturn the certified results.

However, the NPP’s legal team pointed out that the NDC had failed to meet a key procedural requirement—specifically, the failure to file for security for costs within 21 days of the official publication of the election results.

Agreeing with the NPP’s position, the court ruled the petitions invalid and dismissed all three cases.

In addition, the court imposed financial penalties on the NDC: GHS 10,000 in the Ahafo Ano North case and GHS 30,000 each in the Ahafo Ano South West and Obuasi East cases.
