Dumsor Is Not Back, Says Energy Ministry Amid Power Complaints

Energy Ministry Clarifies That Recent Power Outages Are Due to Localized Issues, Not Widespread Generation Problems

Story Highlights
  • Recent power outages are due to isolated faults
  • Problems like faulty cables, such as in Coco Beach and Nungua, are being fixed promptly
  • The Ministry is actively addressing power disruptions

Isaac Agyei Kwakye, the Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, has refuted claims of the return of “dumsor” (unpredictable power cuts), attributing the recent power outages to isolated faults such as damaged cables rather than widespread generation issues.

Amid growing concerns from Ghanaians about unstable power, Kwakye emphasized that these outages are localized incidents, not a national crisis.

Speaking in an interview on April 28, he assured the public that such interruptions should not be mistaken for the return of “dumsor.”

He provided examples, like the recent disruptions at Coco Beach and parts of Nungua, to illustrate that these were specific faults, not systemic issues.

“There’s no ‘dumsor.’ The situation is not related to power generation but rather to isolated problems that are being addressed,” he said.

Kwakye also shared that he, personally, has not experienced power outages in his area, Madina, further debunking the notion of widespread power failure. He added that the Ministry is actively working on improving the power supply with regular consultations and proactive measures.
