  • Boamah emphasizes strong constituent support

Patrick Yaw Boamah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, was successfully retained the Okaikwei Central parliamentary seat in the 2024 elections following a re-collation exercise conducted at the Greater Accra Regional Office of the Electoral Commission on Saturday, December 21st, 2024.

The re-collation overturned an earlier declaration in which the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Baba Sadiq, was announced the winner.

Boamah secured 21,099 votes, while Sadiq garnered 19,368 of the total votes cast.

Boamah explained to Kwame Tanko on the Lawson TV/Radio Ghana Se Sen Morning Show that several irregularities were found in the initial results, including an incident where the EC’s returning officer was allegedly pressured by Sam George, Abraham Amaliba, and other NDC figures to use results from only 110 of the 141 polling stations when it became clear that he was leading.

Following a court order, the EC was instructed to include all the pink sheets in its possession to accurately declare the results, which ultimately favored Boamah.

He emphasized that, having served his constituents for 12 years, their support for him remains unwavering, with even some NDC supporters casting their votes in his favor.

Boamah confidently stated that the will of his constituents cannot be changed, noting that protests from some Okaikwei Central residents following the initial announcement of his defeat were unsurprising.
