The Minority in Parliament has made it clear they will not bow to intimidation from the Majority during the ongoing ministerial vetting process.

Tensions escalated on Thursday, January 30, as clashes over scheduling sparked a heated standoff.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin emphasized the resolve of the Minority, stating, “We may be few, but we are a mighty few. Our conviction is unshakable, and we will not yield to intimidation. Yesterday, verbal attacks were made, and only the vigilance of the police ensured our safe exit from the chamber.”

The Minority raised concerns about the Majority disregarding pre-sitting agreements on the number of ministerial nominees to be vetted. They also called for continued impartiality from the police to ensure order.

Despite the Majority’s opposition, the Minority insisted on rescheduling the vetting to allow for a thorough examination of the nominees, resulting in a disruption that required security intervention to restore order.
