A violent clash between two youth groups over a disputed parcel of land in Tamale has left three individuals injured.
The incident occurred in the bustling business district of the Northern Region.
According to sources at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, several victims with bullet wounds were brought in on Tuesday morning.
The conflict reportedly began on Monday night when one group laid claim to the land, dismantling a cordon and materials at the site.
By Tuesday morning, a rival group confronted them, escalating the dispute into a gun battle.
Eyewitness accounts suggest the land is allegedly tied to influential figures within the New Patriotic Party, though ownership remains unclear.
One eyewitness described the sequence of events: “Around 8 pm last night, a group claimed the land was for Samba and started taking it over. Another person argued it belonged to their brother. Instead of leaving, they destroyed the cordon and stayed overnight to guard the land.”
The standoff resumed the next morning, leading to gunfire. Two individuals sustained gunshot wounds to their legs, while a third was accidentally run over by a vehicle while seeking cover.
The Northern Regional Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
