- Regional and District Directors tasked to ensure strict compliance
- Late registration for candidates will not be entertained by WAEC
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a strong warning to heads of basic schools against charging unauthorized fees for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) registration.
In a press release dated February 12, 2025, the GES acknowledged reports circulating on social media about some school heads demanding such fees. The service clarified that these charges are illegal and ordered an immediate halt to the practice.
Regional Directors have been tasked with ensuring that District Directors closely monitor compliance. Schools that have already collected such fees are mandated to refund them, with severe sanctions awaiting those who fail to comply.
The GES also reiterated that no late registrations would be allowed and urged schools to ensure all eligible students are registered within the official WAEC timeline.
The directive, signed by Cassandra Twum Ampofo, Head of Public Relations, called on the general public to remain vigilant and report any violations.
