Over 160 Galamseyers Arrested; Big Kingpin Next – Sammy Gyamfi
GoldBod CEO hints at imminent arrest of major illegal mining figure as government intensifies crackdown

- Over 160 galamsey operators arrested in ongoing anti-illegal mining crackdown
- Major galamsey kingpin set to be arrested in the coming days
- Seven out of nine devastated forest reserves reclaimed
Sammy Gyamfi, Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) and National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced that a major breakthrough in the fight against illegal mining—locally known as galamsey—is on the horizon.
In a recent interview, Gyamfi revealed that one of the top masterminds behind illegal mining operations, along with his accomplices, is set to be arrested in the coming days.
“Mark my words,” Gyamfi declared. “One of the biggest galamsey kingpins and his associates will be apprehended very soon.”
He praised the current government’s efforts in curbing illegal mining, highlighting significant recoveries of forest reserves once devastated by these operations. According to him, seven out of nine critical reserves—previously deemed ‘red zones’—have now been largely restored.
Gyamfi also cited concrete results from recent anti-galamsey raids:
-
Over 160 arrests made
-
125 excavators, 10 bulldozers, 7 pickup trucks, and 50 motorbikes seized
He emphasized that under the NDC’s leadership, unlike the previous NPP administration, there have been no scandals involving stolen equipment or corruption tied to illegal mining enforcement.
“There are no stories about missing excavators or untraceable drones. No reports of government officials being complicit in galamsey. That’s the difference,” Gyamfi stated firmly.
This announcement marks a renewed wave of action in Ghana’s long-standing battle against illegal mining, signaling that key players behind the scenes may soon face justice.
