Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has sounded the alarm over the declining state of sports in the country, emphasizing the urgent need for revival.
Football and other sporting disciplines in the West African nation have experienced a sharp downturn in recent years, with the latest setback being the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Adams, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Buem constituency, did not hold back in describing the dire situation.
“Our football is in a sorry state. The only thing we have is past glories. We are four-time African champions, but our football and the state of our sports are in a bad state, and this is the time for us to come together and help raise the passion for our sports,” he said.
The minister appealed to Ghanaians to actively participate and invest in the sector to restore its former glory.
“I want to appeal to Ghanaians to get involved and invest to help revive our sports because our sports is sick and needs to be healed. It can only be done by showing love and commitment.
“Our senior national team is sick, and it has affected all other sports. It’s about time we collectively invest in our various sporting disciplines,” he added.
With growing concerns over Ghana’s sporting decline, Mr. Adams’ call serves as a rallying cry for stakeholders and citizens to unite in reviving the nation’s pride on the global stage.
