A heartbreaking armed robbery in the Offinso South Municipality of the Ashanti Region claimed the life of a bus conductor, commonly known as a ‘trotro mate,’ on Wednesday, April 23.
The violent attack occurred on the Ayinasusu–Salam road when two men pretending to be passengers boarded a trotro bus. A third accomplice then emerged from the bushes, shooting the conductor.
Ibrahim Yogo, the Assembly Member for Ayinasusu, confirmed the incident to Citi News, revealing that the robbers also threatened the bus driver at gunpoint, demanding a sack believed to have been given to him in Wenchi.
To further intimidate the locals, the assailants fired multiple warning shots, prompting Yogo to contact the police.
“The police were alerted when the gunshots rang out, and they arrived swiftly, but by the time they got there, the robbers had fled,” Yogo explained. “This is the first time such an incident has occurred here.”
The police have launched an investigation into the attack, as concerns over safety along regional transport routes continue to rise.
Authorities are being urged to take stronger measures to protect commuters from increasing threats of violent crime.
