Lawyer Joseph Osei-Owusu, known as Joe Wise and the current MP for Ashanti Bekwai, has dismissed rumors that NPP MPs have turned their backs on Majority Leader Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin in his battle against the Minority caucus.
Joe Wise affirmed that the NPP MPs are firmly united in their support for Afenyo-Markin.
Speaking on the Lawson TV/Radio ‘Ghana Se Sen’ Morning Show, he insisted there are no issues within the NPP leadership in Parliament.
Regarding the Speaker’s recent announcement to suspend sessions indefinitely, Joe Wise stated that he is uncertain when Parliament will reconvene.
The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament noted that under Article 112 (3) and Standing Order 38, 15% of Members can request the Speaker to summon Parliament to address pressing matters.
“If urgent action is needed, 15% of MPs can request a meeting, and the Speaker must respond within seven days,” he explained.
In light of the current turmoil, Joe Wise mentioned that the Supreme Court will soon rule on the four parliamentary seats declared vacant by Speaker Alban Bagbin, encouraging the public and Parliament to trust in the process.
When asked about his assessment of Speaker Bagbin’s performance, he refrained from commenting, stating that evaluations can vary significantly from person to person.
