Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama, has defended the President’s use of a private jet owned by his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, for official travels to Senegal and The Gambia.

In response to public backlash, Kwakye Ofosu clarified that the jet has been available to President Mahama well before the 2024 general elections, with no cost to the Ghanaian taxpayer.

He assured that the private jet was offered for free, and emphasized that President Mahama continues to prioritize prudent financial management, given the country’s economic challenges. Additionally, Kwakye Ofosu revealed that the official presidential aircraft is currently under review by the Communications Squadron, the Air Force unit that operates it, making the use of the private jet necessary.

He further confirmed that once the review of the official aircraft is completed, President Mahama will resume using it for official trips. Kwakye Ofosu reiterated that the private jet arrangement does not financially burden taxpayers, and the President remains focused on securing the best outcomes for the country during these challenging times.
