President John Dramani Mahama has emphasized the church’s vital role in curbing crime and immorality in Ghana, arguing that without its influence, the situation would be far worse.

Addressing the clergy in Kumasi, he acknowledged concerns over the increasing moral decline despite over 90% of Ghanaians identifying as people of faith. However, he countered that the presence of the church has been a key factor in preventing an even greater societal breakdown.

“Imagine a Ghana without churches, where people act without moral guidance—the situation would be far worse. The churches are doing their best,” Mahama stated.

He further urged Christian denominations to foster unity, warning that internal divisions weaken the church’s impact.

“A united church has the power to transform society. Let us work together to build a strong Christian community that speaks with one voice on national issues,” he emphasized.
