Kwahuhene Dismisses Destoolment Rumors as Baseless
Official statement clarifies the truth behind viral rumors
- Video claiming destoolment is false
- No charges filed against the Kwahuhene
- Kwahuhene continues to serve as paramount chief
The Office of the Kwahuhene has responded to a viral video claiming that Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II has been destooled as paramount chief.
In a statement dated October 19, 2024, and signed by Nana J.K. Boadi, officials clarified that the footage suggesting a “destoolment procedure” is completely false and violates both legal norms and Kwahu traditions.
The statement emphasized that “no formal charges have been filed against the Kwahuhene that would warrant any destoolment action.” Furthermore, it asserted that he has not been implicated in any wrongdoing concerning his previous role as Chairman of the Board of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB).
Regarding the ADB situation, on October 11, 2024, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II resigned from his position following a directive from the Bank of Ghana.
This came after a petition from Collins Darkwa Aboagye, a director and shareholder of Prabhat Trading LTD, requested presidential intervention for the recovery of GH¢2.406 million owed to him by the former ADB board chairman.
The Bank of Ghana mandated his resignation on October 10, citing concerns that his continued directorship could irreparably harm ADB’s reputation. Despite a ritual performed by the chiefs on October 19 that some interpreted as an indication of destoolment, the official statement firmly denied any such action.
However in the press statement from the Esono Gyimah Mampong Agyei Palace, it was explained that “the demand for his [Daasebre] resignation by the Banking Supervision Division of the Bank of Ghana came without prior opportunity for the Kwahuhene to respond to the allegations, which raises concerns about due process.
In light of these events, the Kwahuhene chose to step aside to allow for an appropriate resolution of the matter.
However, it is perplexing that, despite the absence of any findings against Daasebre, a video falsely suggesting his destoolment is being circulated, it added.
