Renowned Ghanaian music producer JMJ has opened up about the departure of dancehall artist Kaakie from his Xtra Large Music label, revealing that while she had undeniable talent, her heart was never fully set on a long-term music career.

JMJ addressed lingering speculation around the split. He recalled a moment when broadcaster Abeiku Santana directly asked Kaakie if JMJ had wronged her or mishandled her finances — to which she responded in the negative.

“What people didn’t know was that Kaakie loved music, but she wasn’t passionate about it,” JMJ explained.

He described how Kaakie, who was studying nursing at the university at the time, struggled to balance academics and her budding music career.

“She didn’t have much time for music. But she was so talented that just 10 minutes in the studio would blow your mind,” he said. “Nursing is a tough course, and she was juggling both school and music. I understood her struggle.”

JMJ added that while Kaakie enjoyed making music, she never saw it as a lifelong profession — her focus gradually shifted toward her education and family life.

Despite stepping back from the spotlight, Kaakie recently hinted at a comeback, revealing plans to return to active music soon — a move that fans of her unique sound are eagerly anticipating.
