Prof. Smart Sarpong, a senior researcher at Kumasi Technical University, has called on the Ghana Freedom Party to withdraw from the upcoming presidential election in December.

Speaking in an interview, he emphasized that this decision would be a fitting tribute to their late leader, Akua Donkor.

Highlighting Donkor’s inspiring journey despite limited education, Prof. Sarpong stated, “She serves as a role model for many, proving that perseverance can overcome obstacles.” However, he believes that the party, which faces a 10-day deadline from the Electoral Commission to select a new candidate, should prioritize respect for Donkor’s legacy.

“Let’s honor her memory by lowering your flags. If you have one, it should be at half-mast, and you should declare your decision to step back from this election in her honor,” he urged.
