West Ham United have officially appointed Graham Potter as their new manager, following the sacking of Julen Lopetegui after just six months in charge.
Potter, who has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, takes over a club currently sitting 14th in the Premier League, just seven points above the relegation zone. The Hammers have won only six league games this season.
This marks Potter’s return to management after being dismissed by Chelsea in April 2023, where he had a turbulent tenure. Before Chelsea, he enjoyed considerable success at Brighton, building a reputation for his tactical flexibility and focus on developing young talent.
Upon his appointment, Potter expressed his excitement for the new challenge. “I am delighted to be here. It was important to me that I waited until a job came along that I felt was right for me, and equally that I was the right fit for the club I am joining,” he said on the club’s official website.
“I’ve had very positive and constructive conversations with the chairman and the board. We share the same values of hard work and high energy, and we’re on the same wavelength about both the short-term objectives and the long-term vision for the club.”
Potter’s first task will be to steady the ship and lift West Ham away from the relegation zone, with a focus on stabilizing their Premier League status before looking to build for the future.
