NAPO Declares Focus on Party Unity, Rules Out 2028 Flagbearer Bid

NAPO: Unity First, 2028 Not on My Agenda

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Running Mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming 2024 presidential election, has reaffirmed that his primary focus is on promoting unity within the party.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the NPP’s meeting held earlier today, Wednesday, April 16, 2025, Dr. Prempeh stressed the critical importance of internal cohesion in securing victory in the upcoming polls.

“My immediate and sole interest at this moment is to foster a united party, which will then pave the way for our flagbearer to be successfully elected,” he stated, emphasizing his dedication to building a strong and unified front within the NPP.

Dr. Prempeh also addressed widespread speculation regarding his future political ambitions, specifically regarding a potential presidential candidacy in the 2028 elections. He firmly dismissed these rumors, stating unequivocally, “No, I am not running in 2028.”

His remarks are widely interpreted as an attempt to dispel any potential distractions and to reinforce his current role in fully supporting the NPP’s campaign efforts for the 2024 election.
