Story Highlights

  • CHASS raised concerns over financial constraints, seeking a postponement
  • GES emphasizes adherence to the academic calendar despite objections
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has upheld its decision to maintain the 2024/25 academic calendar as initially announced.

In a statement issued on January 2, 2025, the GES confirmed that Senior High Schools (SHSs) will reopen on January 3, 2025, while Primary and Junior High Schools (JHSs) will resume on January 8, 2025.

The announcement follows appeals from the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) to delay reopening due to unresolved financial challenges in second-cycle schools. CHASS had cautioned that these issues could hinder the smooth reopening of schools.

Despite the concerns, the GES reiterated that reopening dates across all educational levels remain unchanged, urging students, staff, parents, and stakeholders to adhere to the established schedule.
