Fuel Prices Spike Again: GOIL and Shell Lead the Charge

GOIL and Shell Lead Price Hikes as Global Trends and Cedi Depreciation Drive Increases

Story Highlights
  • GOIL’s petrol now costs GH₵15.74 per litre, while Shell’s petrol sells at GH₵15.59
  • Rising global crude oil prices and the cedi’s depreciation are driving the adjustments
  • Star Oil and Total Energies maintain their prices, with petrol at GH₵14.75 and GH₵15.50, respectively

Fuel prices are on the rise once more, as some Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) implement marginal increases with the start of the second pricing window in January.

Leading players such as GOIL and Shell have adjusted their prices:

  • GOIL: Petrol jumped from GH₵14.99 to GH₵15.74 per litre, and diesel edged up from GH₵15.60 to GH₵15.77.
  • Shell: Petrol rose from GH₵15.30 to GH₵15.59, while diesel increased from GH₵15.66 to GH₵15.79.

The price hikes are attributed to escalating global crude oil prices and the cedi’s depreciation.

Meanwhile, some OMCs, including Star Oil and Total Energies, have opted to maintain their prices—for now—offering consumers a brief respite amid the rising costs.

These fluctuations in fuel costs underline the volatility of the market, leaving many drivers and businesses bracing for a heavier financial burden.
