The Mpraeso Circuit Court has denied bail to 28 individuals accused of being involved in the kidnapping of Kwahu Adontenhene, Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III, the acting President of the Kwahu Traditional Area.

The suspects, who allegedly stormed the Abetifi Palace to forcefully remove the traditional ruler, were remanded on November 8. Despite their lawyer, Nkrabea Effah Dartey, pushing for bail on November 14, the court upheld the remand decision.

The accused will remain in police custody until their next appearance on November 27, 2024.

While the defense lawyer expressed disappointment with the ruling, the spokesperson for the Abetifi Palace, Nana Saka Darko, praised the court’s decision as investigations into the case continue.

The suspects, initially believed to be National Security agents, were reportedly led by Obaapanyin Yaa Asantewaa, the Abrewatia of Kwahu, during the incident.
