A tragic case in Las Vegas has ended with the grim discovery of Monique Gilbertson, 68, found dead inside her freezer weeks after she reported concerns about her ex-roommate.
Police suspect Daniel Roush, 37, whom Gilbertson had allowed to move in after meeting at a store, of killing her and continuing to live in the house alongside her body.
Gilbertson reportedly became frustrated with Roush’s unhygienic behavior and evicted him on October 22, changing the locks.
Around that time, her frequent calls to her property management office abruptly stopped.
When police performed a wellness check on November 6, Roush and another woman were found in Gilbertson’s home, but she was missing.
Officers found Gilbertson’s body in the freezer after Roush claimed he found her slumped over a chair and “put her in the icebox” because he didn’t know what else to do.
Roush alleged Gilbertson had overdosed on drugs he sold her, but an employee who requested the wellness check insisted Gilbertson didn’t use drugs or alcohol.
Authorities have charged Roush with second-degree murder as investigations continue, with the exact cause of death still undetermined.
