Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has taken a significant step to address Ghana’s housing deficit and modernize land administration.
On Monday, he inaugurated over 1,000 affordable housing units in Tema, Community 26, alongside commissioning the new Lands Commission headquarters in Accra.
Speaking at the Lands Commission event, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the transformative impact of an efficient land administration system on Ghana’s economic and social development.
With nearly 90% of the population depending on land for their livelihoods, he highlighted the importance of a modernized, well-structured approach to land management.
The Vice President outlined the government’s three-pronged strategy for land sector reform: building modern infrastructure, digitizing processes, and equipping staff with the necessary expertise.
He expressed optimism that the new Lands Commission headquarters would address inefficiencies and foster growth.
Later, at the affordable housing project in Tema, Dr. Bawumia introduced the government’s new “Decade of Housing” policy. This ambitious initiative aims to tackle Ghana’s housing crisis through a public-private partnership model, ensuring sustainability and accessibility.
“We have successfully prioritized roads; now it’s time to focus on a decade of housing to meet Ghana’s pressing housing needs,” he stated.
These projects reaffirm the government’s commitment to infrastructure development and creating economic opportunities for Ghanaians.
