Two people have been killed in separate attacks in Bawku as violence escalates in the conflict-ridden town.

The first victim, Moro Aziz, a mentally unstable man from Gozesi, was reportedly killed near the Bawku cemetery after wandering into the area. Details surrounding his death remain unclear.

The second victim, Kasim, was targeted and killed in Daduri while attempting to relocate within the volatile region.

These incidents bring the death toll to 35 since hostilities reignited in late October 2024, despite a dawn-to-dusk curfew imposed to restore order.

The conflict, which stems from a chieftaincy dispute that began in November 2021, reignited after the return of rival chief Alhaji Seidu Abagre, installed by the Nayiri, sparking renewed clashes.

Although security forces are on high alert, peace remains elusive as tensions in Bawku continue to simmer.
