Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the Presidential Candidate for the Movement for Change, has called on Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin to honor the Supreme Court’s ruling.
He emphasized the need for Bagbin to swiftly address the Majority Leader Afenyo-Markin’s application, which led to a court injunction against declaring four parliamentary seats vacant.
While praising the Speaker’s initial decision to vacate the seats, Kyerematen criticized Bagbin’s attempt to challenge the Supreme Court’s authority in legal matters.
He stressed the importance of maintaining the separation of powers and respecting Parliament’s autonomy.
Kyerematen warned that ongoing disputes could harm the democratic process, especially with elections on the horizon.
He urged for a prompt resolution, stating, “Bagbin must accept the Supreme Court’s decision granting an injunction and subsequently file a new application to reconsider that ruling. There’s no constitutional issue to interpret in this case, so Afenyo-Markin’s request for an injunction against Parliament lacks merit.”
