Five people were injured in Sehwi Nkatieso, located in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai municipality of the Western North Region, during a confrontation with illegal miners, known locally as “galamseyers,” operating in the Afao Forest Reserve.
According to local residents, the injured individuals were rushed to Anhweaso Community Hospital for treatment.
The clash occurred when a group of youth attempted to resist the illegal mining activities that have been causing harm to their community and environment.
In response to the escalating threat posed by these illegal operations, the community has called for urgent action from the authorities.
The Member of Parliament for Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai, Alfred Obeng Boateng, assured residents that efforts are underway to work with security forces to remove all galamsey equipment from the forest.
