Three people lost their lives in a tragic bus accident on Friday when a bus traveling from Takoradi to Accra overturned at an intersection near Aggrey Memorial School in Cape Coast.

The bus, with registration number GW 6231-21, was carrying approximately 53 passengers when it fell on its side, trapping several people inside.

As a result of the accident, 23 passengers sustained various injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital. Nine others were treated for less severe injuries and discharged.

Abdul Wasiu Hudu, the Central Regional Public Relations Officer for the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), confirmed that the incident occurred around 6:48 am on Friday, December 27, 2024.

Emergency teams from the GNFS, the police, and the ambulance services worked together to rescue the passengers. Many were transported to both the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and the University of Cape Coast Hospital for medical care.

Sadly, three passengers were confirmed dead at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital following the rescue operation.
